Constitution and Bylaws of Sycamore Baptist Church

That all may be done decently and in order according to the word of God, 1 Corinthians 14:40, and that we may more rapidly help each other in our Christian service, we, the members of Sycamore Baptist Church, adopt the following constitution.

Article 1
Purpose

Section 1: The Mission and Purpose of This Church Shall Be:

[A] To further the whitmess of Jesus Christ, both at home and abroad. (Mathew 28:19-20)

[B] To lead souls into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. (1 Cor. 15:1-4)

[C] To provide a place of worship, Christian education, and Christian fellowship.

[D] To aid all in spiritual and moral growth.

[E] To maturely share and bear one another's burden, concerns and joys.

[F] To have a positive Christian attitude in daily living.

[G] To defend the faith with our worship, our work, our walk, and to never allow anyone to compromise our doctoral convictions. All in accordance to the teachings of Christ and His apostles to the glory of God and the salvation of sinners, to reclaim the backslid and renew the joy of everyone's salvation.

Article 2
Confessions of Faith and Doctrinal Statement

We of Sycamore Baptist Church, as a body of believers in Christ Jesus our Lord, do accept the Articles of Faith as presented in the Baptist Faith in message which was adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention in 1963. In keeping with its statement in the autonomy of the local Church, we here by state the following as our doctrinal beliefs:

  • We believe the scriptures, both old and new testaments, to be the inspired word of God, without error, the complete revelation of His will for the salvation of men, and the next Divine and final authority for all Christian faith and life. (2 Tim 3:16, 2 Peter,1:21)

  • We believe in one God, the creator of all things, infinitely perfect and existing in three person, Father, Son, Holy Spirit. (1 John 5:7)

  • We believe that Jesus Christ is True God and True Man, having been conceived of the holy spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He died on the cross, and sacrificed for our sins according to the scripture. Further, he rose from bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, where, at the right hand of God, he is forever our high priest and advocate. (Isaiah 7:14, John 1:14, 2 Corinthians 15:3,4, Hebrews 4:14, 1 john 2:1)

  • We believe the ministry and the gifts of the Holy Spirit are to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ, and to convict men of sin, regenerate the believing sinners, in dwell, guide, instruct, and empower the believers for Godly living and service. (John 16:7-11, Romans 5:5, Romans 8:9, Galatians 4:6, 1 Peter 1:23, John 3:6, 1 Corinthians 12:14)

  • We believe that man was created in the image of God but fell into sin and is therefore, lost and only through regeneration by the Holy Spirit can salvation and spiritual life be obtained. (Genesis 1:27, Genesis 2:17, 1 Peter 1:22-23)

  • We believe that the shed blood of Jesus Christ and His resurrection provide the only ground for justification and salvation for all who believe, in only such as received Jesus Christ are born of the Holy Spirit and thus become the children of God. (2 Corinthians 5:21, John 1:12, John 5:24)

  • We believe that the Lord's supper and water baptism are the only ordinances the Lord gave to the church, and they are to be observed by the church during this present age. They are, however, not to be regarded as a means of salvation. (Romans 6:4, Colossians 2:12, 1 Corinthians 11:26-32)

  • We believe the True Church is composed of all such persons who thought saving faith in Jesus Christ have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit and are united together in the body of Christ of which He is the head. (Ethesians 1:22, Colossians 1:18, Acts 20:28, 1 Corinthians 12:17)

  • We believe that only those who are thus members of the True Church shall be eligible for membership in the local church. (Acts 20:28)

  • We believe that Jesus Christ is the Lord and the Head of the Church and that every local church has the right under Christ, to decide and govern its own affairs. (Ethesians 1:22, Acts 6:2-3)

  • We believe in the personal and eminent coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and that this blessed hope has a vital bearing on the personal life and service of the believer. (Titus 2:13, Thilittians 3:20)

  • We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead, of the believer to ever lasting blessedness and joy with the Lord, of the unbeliever the judgement and everlasting conscious punishment. (Acts 24:14-15, John 5:28-29, Daniel 12:2)
